On a summer morning, folk artist Xiong Tongfu came to the square as usual.

In the hands of Xiong Tongfu, he clasped his "baby" – East Chongqing Bamboo Instrument.

After building a simple stage, Xiong Tongfu began his daily routine.

However, no matter how hard he tried, there were only a few people around the “stage.”

Xiong Tongfu loved bamboo instrument since he was a child, but it was not until 1996 that he was 46 years old to formally mastered the technique of the bamboo instrument.

From hobbies to apprentices to craftsmanship, Xiong Tongfu, who has a handful of playing experience, is only able to play on his own booth and has never been on the stage.

As the saying goes, "The masters are in the crowd" - in the field of folk art, there are hundreds of artists who have traditional artistic skills like Xiong Fufu. For a long time in the past, they were all in the dilemma of “skilled, but nowhere to present.” Most of them just show a small bit in their leisure time, to the neighborhood; A long-term working in the low-end performance market of townships and villages, the income is low, to live is difficult, and there is no real performance system that is “professional, formal, and sustainable.”
